Glass, ceramics and cement: Top 10 companies accelerate revenue growth The largest Bulgarian companies in the production of glass, ceramics and cement had a successful 2022, when the total revenues of the top 10 in the sector reached BGN 4.7 billion. The average growth of their sales compared to the previous year was 33.6%, significantly above the reported 18% in 2021. The leader is the Portuguese "BE Voice Bulgaria", which reports a turnover of BGN 2.9 billion. "Rubin Trading" from Pleven recorded the highest jump in revenues in the top 10, at the same time a three-digit increase - 107.4%. Only "Devnia Cement" reports fewer sales compared to 2021. The largest employer is "Pashabahche Bulgaria" with 1,658 employees, although there is a slight reduction in personnel. The Portuguese "BE Glas Bulgaria", which is the owner of the former "Druzhba glass factories" in Plovdiv and Sofia, is the undisputed leader in the top 10 with nearly 43% growth in sales in 2022. The main reason for the increase is that changes within the group turned the Bulgarian company into a sales center through which the sales of all 12 BA Glass factories in Europe go. Two of the factories of the Turkish Sisecam in Targovishte occupy the second and third places respectively in the ranking - "Trakiya glas Bulgaria" and "Pashabahche Bulgaria", and the third of the group - "Shisedjam Automotive Bulgaria" is in the sixth position. In 2015, Sisecam divided its operations in Bulgaria into three companies. The largest of them is the flat glass producer "Trakia Glas Bulgaria", whose sales in 2022 will mark over 33.7% growth and exceed BGN 452 million. The sales of the household glass producer "Pashabahche Bulgaria" in 2022 will also grow , but due to higher costs, the company is losing money. Almost a 36% jump in sales is reported by the manufacturer of automobile glasses "Shishedjam Automotive Bulgaria". The company continues to operate at a loss, which, however, is significantly smaller in 2022 compared to the previous year. With sales of over BGN 153.3 million, the producer of glass packaging - the Pleven-based "Rubin Trading" occupies the 6th position in the ranking. The country's largest producer of faience, terracotta and granite tiles - "Khan Asparuh" - Isperih, from "KAI Group", is in fourth position with revenues in 2022 that exceed BGN 191 million. The increase is the result of growth of sales of own production and goods. More than 75% of the production goes abroad. In 2004, "Khan Asparuh" acquired "Khan Omurtag" in Shumen and began the implementation of a project for the modernization and expansion of both factories. A series of investments lead to a 24-hour production cycle, and the two plants reach an installed capacity of around 28 million square meters per year. In 2015, KAI became part of Mohawk Industries - the world's largest flooring manufacturer. "Knauf Bulgaria" (7th place) - part of the German Knauf family, has plasterboard and gypsum fiber plants in Vidin and the village of Mednikarovo near Galabovo, where it utilizes gypsum from the desulfurization of the thermal power plants in the Mari?ka basin. In 2022, the company grows by over 15%. In Vidin, about 4 million square meters of gypsum boards are produced annually for dry floors and walls. The company also operates in the industry for ready-made wooden and prefabricated houses in Austria, Switzerland and Italy, to which it exports 90% of its production. "Devnya Cement" (which is now called "Heidelberg Materials Devnya") (5th place) of the German Heidelberg Materials notes a decrease in turnover in 2022. "Holsim Bulgaria" (9th position) however reports over 25% growth of revenues in 2022. The company is part of the Swiss Holcim group and is the owner of the cement plant in the village of Beli Izvor, Vratsa region. "Zlatna Panega Cement" (10) of the Greek group Titan also recorded a jump in sales, which exceeded BGN 111 million. In 2022, the company worked at a profit, unlike the previous year 2021.
