UBB lends BGN 200 million to Bulgartransgaz for the Vertical Corridor The state-owned company Bulgartransgaz has signed a long-term loan agreement with United Bulgarian Bank in the amount of BGN 200 million (EUR 102.26 million) for investment activities on the Vertical Gas Corridor. The loan is provided at an interest rate of less than 2%. The government of Rosen Zhelyazkov has approved state guarantees for the Vertical Gas Corridor worth nearly BGN 250 million. Along with UBB, Investbank will also be involved in the lending. The state-guaranteed loans with the selected banks are intended to partially cover the investment costs of the project. They will be utilized by December 15, 2025, and the repayment period is 5 years after January 1, 2027, when the grace period expires. The Vertical Gas Corridor project is a strategic initiative of the gas transmission operators of Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine and Moldova, which aims to ensure secure, diversified and sustainable natural gas transmission in the region and to strengthen Europe's energy independence. By October 1, 2026, the Bulgarian part of the gas pipeline will be ready, claims the CEO of Bulgartransgaz Vladimir Malinov.
